Mercurio
Mercurio - also known as Luke Brohman (he/him) was born, lives, and works in Magadjin (so-called Brisbane) in the sovereign, stolen lands of the Yuggerah, Jagera, and Turrbal Peoples. He is descended from German, Irish and British peoples.
Situated in the dynamic and ever-shifting crossroads of queerness, primordial archetype, mythos, and magic, Luke weaves an art practice that enquires into core questions and realities surrounding love, truth, beauty…
Dramatic elemental landscapes formed of fusion and lucid calamity - roaring ocean waves, lightning-filled sky… - and a love of figures and faces embodying the secret histories and postures of the Mysteries often form Luke’s subject matter. The art reflects the artist’s magical practice - a devotee of Hermes and embedded within the Wildwood, Luke explores animism, motion, and the queer force of nature.
